Making a Great School District Even Better

To the Editor of the Thousand Oaks Acorn:

Since the last election we have made a great school district even better.  Our accomplishments have helped create prosperity:

Mark McLaughlin is our new superintendent.  The CVUSD has the lowest teacher student ratio in Ventura County. No elementary schools were closed.  No teacher strike.  Lou Lichtl is our new assistant superintendent of instruction.

Our new book selection policy strengthens parent rights and protects our children.  Carden Conejo has a three year lease.  The parenting program at Horizon Hills was saved.   We voted 5-0 on a new policy to comply with the FAIR Act.   We saved the United Cerebral Palsy program allowing it to stay at the Waverly site.

After 23 years of debate CVHS has a new home at a great location and was relocated 1.1 million dollars under budget.  Our students are accepted into the best universities in America.

We are opening up and appointing to our advisory and oversight committees a more diverse group of parents and community members.  Taxpayers now have more influence in our district.

Thanks to our passage of Measure I new technology is being implemented in our classrooms.  Our buildings are some of the best maintained in America.  Our schools are safe and secure.

The morale of our employees is improving as superintendent Mark McLaughlin implements his vision of the #ConejoWay of doing business and educating our children.

Nearly every school in the district is recognized as a distinguished school. Zillow ranks our district a 9 out of a possible 10 points.

Great schools + parent participation  = student success + local economic prosperity + wealth

We have much to be thankful for this holiday season. Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah.

Trustee, CVUSD
